School of Fine Arts
The School of Fine Arts provides art, instrumental (cello, flute, guitar, keyboard, trumpet and violin) and vocal instruction to students ages 3 – 80+ at $20 per 30 minute lesson! Instruction available for anyone in the community by top-recommended instructors. Opportunities available for student recitals, artwork displayed in the community and guest artist visits from local galleries!

Lynnea Smyre – Art
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Art Education and Masters in Educational Leadership with Technology Add-On from Kennesaw State University
Experience and Expertise: Drawing with Pencil, Conte, Pen and Ink, Pastels; Painting with Acrylic, Oil, Water Color; Printmaking; Clay; Papier-mâché; Woodworking; Sewing; Knitting with a Loom; Stained Glass; Fused Glass; Jewelry Making; Multi-media experimentation
Teaching Experience: Middle school teacher for 14 years; Art courses, art club, art shows; Working with children of special needs
Justin Rowan – Brass, Trumpet
Education: Senior Music Education student at Kennesaw State University
Experience and Expertise: Active performer in the Kennesaw State Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Trumpet Ensemble; Founding member of the “Spectacle Brass” quintet; Founding member, current President and collegiate level representative of Kennesaw State’s chapter of ΦMA Sinfonia Music Fraternity
Performance Experience: Performances with Thomas Hooten of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chris Martin of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Brass and the rock band KANSAS; Performances as lead trumpet player with DCI World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and more!
Byron Dow – Cello, Guitar, Vocal, Mandolin
Education: Bachelor of Mathematics from Concordia University, NE
Experience and Expertise: Cellist in the Symphonic Orchestra at Arlington High School, TX; ACapella Choir, Chamber Orchestra, and lead vocalist/guitarist for bands at Concordia University, Nebraska; Private lessons instructor for cello, guitar, mandolin and voice; Director of Worship Arts at Living Hope and Open Arms of Kennesaw
Specialty: Developing personal, unique style with each student he teaches
Jason LaMarca – Drums
Education: Orchestral Percussion Performance Major at University of North TX
Experience and Expertise: 20+ years of live & studio performances; Numerous recordings in Midwest and Southeast United States; Private drums/percussion instructor for 20+ years; Taught Lassiter High School Drum Line, including 1998 Nationals win
Performance Experience: Performances at Fox Theater, the GA Dome, World of Coke, Atlanta symphony Hall, Atlanta Civic Center and more!
Jared Leach – Guitar
Education: Jazz Guitar Performance Student at Kennesaw State University
Experience and Expertise: Studied rock, jazz, blues, and finger style guitar with private instructors since the age of seven
Performance Experience: Private guitar instructor for 2 years; Adult Praise Band at West Cobb Church of Marietta
Catherine Flinchum – Flute, Woodwinds
Education: Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance Student at Kennesaw State University; Master Classes with Bradley Garner, Tim Munro, Maxim Rubtsov, Tara Helen O’Connor and Keith Underwood
Experience and Expertise: Member and principal player of the Kennesaw State University Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble; Member of the KSU Flute Ensemble, Chamber Ensembles, and flute soloist with KSU Opera and KSU Women’s Choir; Member of the Atlanta Flute Club
Performance Experience: Three-concert China tour with KSU Orchestra and performances at Beijing Conservatory, Jiao Tong University, and Xi’an Concert Hall; Performance with the band KANSAS; Collegiate Symphony tour at Cobb Energy Centre; Performance with Peter Gabriel’s “New Blood” album with the KSU Orchestra; Guest performer in the Woodstock and Kennesaw areas
Christian Artieda – Piano, Keyboard, Guitar
Education: Associate of Arts in Music and Worship from Laurel University in High Point, NC; Enrolled at the School of Music at Kennesaw State University
Experience and Expertise: Brazilian Fellowship music director at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta: Guest guitarist for other local churches.
Teaching Experience: Private guitar and piano lessons; Piano instructor at the CanZion Institute in Norcross.
Joy Schubert – Piano, Keyboard
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Theology and minor in Music from Concordia University Chicago
Experience and Expertise: Pianist and keyboardist for bands, churches, choirs and musical performances throughout the United States for twenty-five years; Music Director and Director of Worship Arts at churches for five years; Wrote and published children’s songs and piano accompaniment for Concordia Publishing House St. Louis, MO children’s curriculum; Keyboardist for professional studio recordings in Chicago; Private piano and keyboard instructor

Brittany Thayer – Violin
Education: Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance Student at Kennesaw State University; Instructors include Helen Kim a student of Dorothy DeLay, and Ying Zhou and Marla Feeney, a second-generation student of Nathan Milstein
Experience and Expertise: Cobb County Honor Orchestra for four years; Member of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) under Dr. Michael Alexander for three years; Attended Encore! Music Camp at Emory University and the University of Georgia Summer Music Institute; Violin Instructor
Performance Experience: Performed the first movement of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Pope High School’s highest orchestra; Member of the Kennesaw State University Symphony Orchestra, serving as co-principal second violin; Performances with the Kennesaw State Violin Studio and Chamber Ensembles; Atlanta area guest performances
